THERE’S the opportunity to hear a performance of clarinet and piano in Newton Abbot later this month. Peter Cigleris follows in the footsteps of Sarah Watts and Elaine Cocks who have both performed for nadsaconcerts over the last 5 years.

Peter, leading UK clarinettist, loves a varied programme. Indeed, for his nadsaconcert performance at the Courtenay Centre on Sunday, February 19, he will perform a European sandwich: French with Italian and English filling.

He also likes to add discovered works alongside those considered more mainstream; it all makes for great variety.

Peter studied at the Birmingham Conservatoire and the Royal College of Music, winning the prestigious John Ireland Chamber Music award and the Prix de Fossat on the way.

He is established nationally in chamber repertoire, plays at various festivals, and has performed concertos in Italy, Romania and Mexico. Peter is a member of ‘Chamber Music Box’ presenting innovative chamber music programmes in London and the surrounding areas.

As a solo recording artist Peter has a growing discography. His most recent release ‘Rediscovered’ has Peter as soloist with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales featuring four British clarinet concertos, of which three are world premiere recordings. The disc has been extremely well received by reviewers and listeners alike.

Peter has chosen an eclectic mix for his Newton Abbot concert: Saint-Saens Clarinet Sonata in E flat, Op 167, Cecile Hartog Chateaux de Espagne No 1 & No 2, Clive Jenkins Five Pieces for Clarinet and Piano, Michele Mangani Clarinet Sonata and Francis Poulenc Clarinet Sonata FP 184.

His accompanist, Dina Duisen, makes a welcome return to the Courtenay Centre, having given her solo piano recital only last month. Together, they promise to be quite a duo.

This concert, promoted by nadsaconcerts, is a John Turpin bequest. John, a proactive participant in the music of the town over many decades, and chairman of the society for almost as long, chose in his will to continue to support its musical heritage.
