WITH spring rapidly approaching, Dartmoor National Park Authority has put together a few things for visitors and residents to do, so that there won't be a shortage of free activities over the half term.

DNPA is currently celebrating the brilliant birds of the moor, or even of your local park or garden. With that in mind DNPA has come up with a variety of avian activities for all the family.

- Create

Pop into any one of our three visitor centres and create your own bird mask to take home. Turn yourself into a blue tit, robin or an owl.

Pick up a copy of our bird challenge activity sheet. It's full of ideas for birdy activities to complete while on the moor or at home, from making a bird feeder to watching the birds and learning their songs.

- Learn

Busy elsewhere this half-term? You can discover the National Park and its many birds through our guides, videos and online activities.

A Beginner's Guide to Birdwatching - tune in to a recorded talk with Dartmoor naturalist John Walters. Learn about best places to birdwatch, birds' features and markings and their songs.

Discover the Dawn Chorus - we're getting closer to spring and the best time to hear the dawn chorus, one of nature's most wonderful songs. Watch this film to feel inspired (without needing to leave the house super early to hear it!)

Get crafty by making your own bird feeder. Try making a pancake stack feeder, or follow the step-by-step guide on our website and make a citrus bird feeder.

National Nestbox Week takes place every year between 14 - 21 February. This step-by-step video guide by Dartmoor Ranger Stuart Hooppell will have you making your own nestbox in next to no time.
