EXTINCTION Rebellion plan to hold a march and protest to Barclays Bank at Newton Abbot Library on Saturday, September 3, within the banks planned closing time of 1330.
Newton Abboot Local Extinction Rebellion member Mike Puleston, said: ‘Barclays alongside many other major banks continue to fund Global Fossil Fuel Extraction on a huge scale (please see link).
‘XR have consistently said that we as humans are running out of time to mitigate an impending climate catastrophe.
‘Fossil fuel financing from the world’s 60 largest banks has reached USD $4.6 trillion in the six years since the adoption of the Paris Agreement, with $742 billion in fossil fuel financing in 2021 alone.
‘Only ardent climate deniers can minimise the effects of accelerating destructive climate change as a result of increasing greenhouse emissions from the burning of fossil fuels.
‘The IPCC report 2022 warned that the world is set to reach the 1.5ºC level within the next two decades and said that only the most drastic cuts in carbon emissions from now would help prevent an environmental disaster.’
