IT’S THE SEASON TO GO TO WAR: In ancient manuscripts over two thousand years old, it recalls when kingdoms go to war. The phrase was, ‘it was the season for war.’
The season being the spring when bad weather was less likely to get your troops and horses bogged down. In this modern world we never thought a country would be so barbaric that they would launch a horrifying modern weapons war on innocent civilians. We were all wrong!
It’s not about dates or history, but as those who study ancient history and theology say, it’s about a Spirit within the leaders of those war-like nations, and spirits never change.
In American literature, the character of Prometheus speaks the phrase: Whom the gods would destroy they first make mad in the poem ‘The Masque of Pandora’ (1875), by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow. I think we know who is very unwell. Only our minds can change and then it means that bad spirit can go at last!
You may wonder if this has anything to do with the environment. It’s everything! War is one of the worst things that can damage the environment. Not to even mention the cost to humans’ and animal life.
One can only estimate how much fuel has been and will be burnt from the first move of the Russian army, (the average tank and carrier only does 0.70 to 0.15 miles to the gallon and jet fighters, a lot less) but it must run into many hundreds of thousands of litres.
This would be thousands of tonnes of carbon adding to global warming. To me, this means that many heads of state, whose countries have surplus gas, oil and coal either have no intention to reduce their usage of it, or even believe that the global temperature rise is mainly due to fossil fuels being burnt. There is also the damage to the soil from diesel and the plants being mowed down by tanks.
I hope by the time you read this, the rumours of Russia may be thinking of using thermobaric oxygen bombs, to hasten the advancement; which was slower than they wanted, has not happened. These bombs are like mini nuclear weapons. This weapon not only kills humans, but all life on a large scale.
This is hardly a way of saving the environment, and the planet.
A good quote at this time, ‘before kingdoms can change, hearts must change.’
I think we all thought that mass killing was at an end, but it seems we have all been mesmerize by good times and spending money, when Russia has been saving a war-chest of money and arms. A new order is coming as everything has changed, but what exactly that will be is still not clear.
We spent our peace dividend and now find we have reduced our army to half the size of Ukraine. We must redouble our efforts for saving the environment before it’s too late.
One last thought, as gas prices are likely to go up at least another 50% this coming October, maybe think about spending your overseas holiday money on one big energy save project on your home.
Not to mention the safety of staying at home at these uncertain times. Start with fully insulating everything.
Ask your energy supplier if they have any schemes, or the council have any grants or help. Energy was always thought would be a big issue and now we are there!
