The historic industrial heart of Newton Abbot could be transformed within a few years after plans to redevelop Bradley Lane were announced.

On the cards are new homes and smart business units, possibly leisure facilities too.

Details are sketchy and senior managers at Teignbridge Council are refusing to say much about the scheme, which has been identified as one of the authority's most important aims.

The top priority in the new Teignbridge Economy and Tourism Development Plan is to prepare for short and medium term growth in the Newton area and deliver additional land for business.

The second, Priority 1b, states: 'Deliver the masterplan proposals for Bradley Lane to create a new office and residential area adjacent to Newton Abbot town centre.'
