There may have been a few brollies pressed into action at the start of Monday's King's Teignton Ram Roasting Fair at Oakford Lawn but the skies soon cleared and the crowds flocked in generating £6,700 for local good causes. Chairman John Stacey described the festivities as 'a great success' and thanked all those who took part. 'The supporters of the fair who generously provided sponsorship, contributed prizes for the draw and other events deserve great praise as do the volunteers who willing gave up their time to help on the stalls, side shows, gates and refreshments,' he said. 'Praise also goes to the maypole dancers for giving us a lovely exhibition of traditional dancing under the expert guidance of Catherine Harris. 'Our thanks also goes out to the entertainers who again provided a wonderful display of talent and contributed towards the enjoyable atmosphere, to the static displays and those providing sustenance for the visitors to the fair. 'But the people deserving the most praise are all of the residents and visitors who attended and, as always, contributed towards making this such a wonderful event on the Kingsteignton calendar.'
