Volunteer lifeboat crew in Teignmouth responded to a ‘false alarm with good intent’ on Saturday (June 20).

Teignmouth Royal National Lifeboat Institute RNLI) was requested to launch its inshore lifeboat, the Claude and Kath, at 7.01pm on Saturday following reports of a person thought to be in difficulty.

The lifeboat proceeded to the location but was stood down by Solent Coastguard after it was confirmed that the suspected casualty was not in danger.

‘This was a false alarm with good intent and we would commend the person who raised the alarm as that is always the right thing to do,’ said Teignmouth RNLI lifeboat operations manager Andy Lilburn. ‘We would much rather launch and find all is well than not launch at all.’
