ON your marks, get set, go… Family and friends of the late Beth Kelly are preparing to undergo one of the most gruelling challenges around.
Beth’s husband Mike, brother-in-law Paul and best friend Amy McDowell will be running through the heart of London in next year’s marathon.
The trio will be running the 26.2-mile marathon in memory of 27-year-old Beth, who went for a nap last November and never woke up.
But that is not all, the sporty bunch have set themselves a goal of raising £2,000 each for Macmillan Cancer Support and Shelter.
Best friend Amy said: ‘Beth upheld a positivity that inspired others and brought people together.
‘The legacy she has left behind unites family and friends.
‘I am really excited about the marathon. I have always wanted to run it after watching my parents do it as a child.
‘I’m so proud to be running with Paul and Mike in memory of Beth, she would have loved getting involved.’
The amateur runners will be heading to the smoke in April for the popular spectacle, which will be Paul and Amy’s second marathon and Mike’s first.
Fundraising events will be taking place in the run-up to the marathon, with Paul’s 14-year-old son Dylan and family member Claire Twitchen having their mops chopped off on New Year’s Eve and the brave duo have already drummed up £500.
Bag-packing will be the next fundraising venture for the team, who will be assisting customers at Teignmouth’s Morrisons on December 17.
A cake sale, artwork sale and sponsored wax have already taken place, raising more than £1,000 and the dedicated fundraisers have recently launched wristbands and are preparing to bare all in a naked calendar.
The wristbands are available for £1 at various venues in Newton Abbot, including Ye Olde Cider Bar, Aaron Printers and the Little White Dress Shop.
