Teignbridge members of Devon for Europe will be joining a peaceful pro EU march organised by the group in Exeter tomorrow, March 24.
The march is one of 11 taking place across the UK, marking the anniversary of the submission of the article 50 notification to leave the EU.
The event, which promises to be upbeat and family-friendly, will include pro EU groups as well as political parties, student groups, environmentalists and NHS supporters from across the South West including Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, Bath, Bristol, Salisbury, Cheltenham, Gloucester and Dorset.
Meeting at Belmont Park at noon, the march will thread through Exeter’s main shopping area and finish with a rally in Princesshay from 1pm until 3pm.
Labour MP for Exeter, Ben Bradshaw, will be speaking, as well as contributions from young people, farmers and businesses, MPs and MEPs.
Anthea Simmons, of Devon for Europe, said: ‘We know from our street stalls, which we hold right across the county, that even in ‘leave’ towns like Okehampton, where we had a highly successful first stall last weekend, people are getting really worried now about what Brexit means for their lives, their jobs, the NHS and schools.
‘They can see that Brexit promises are undeliverable and now they want to have the chance to set things right. If we live in a true democracy, we have the right to change our minds! This event is a lovely opportunity to share in the camaraderie of a big march, to wave a flag and to spread the word that we are all entitled to a final say.
‘The rally is a timely opportunity to remind voters they have a democratic right to demand a final say on the terms of any deal with the option to remain and to celebrate the very many benefits EU membership has brought to the UK and to the South West.’
