Teignbridge farmers met Lib Dem agriculture expert Tim Farron this week during a whistlestop visit by the MP. At a meeting at the Cromwell Arms, Bovey Tracey, the Westmorland and Lonsdale MP spoke about TB, farm prices and CAP reform. He also discussed plans for a new livestock market for Newton Abbot, planned near the Drumbridges roundabout. The scheme is being worked on by farmers, Teignbridge Council and the private sector. Mr Farron – promoted Lib Dem minister for the countryside and rural affairs in Nick Clegg's shadow cabinet – was accompanied by leading Teignbridge Lib Dems. Former Teignbridge MP Richard Younger-Ross was among the group. Lib Dem Cllr Alan Connett, leader of Teignbridge Council, said it was a meeting arranged at short notice and it was thus pleased that a dozen farmers attended. He said Mr Farron would be reporting back to Defra about his visit.
