MORE than 3,200 Teignbridge residents faced Christmas fearing they could be fined and stripped of council tax discounts worth hundreds of pounds unless they could prove within 14 days that they lived alone.

the move has been branded as 'appalling' and 'disgusting'.

Teignbridge said it was trying to ensure that those entitled to the discount still received it.
