A TRIPLE extension ladder was used by firefighters as they tackled a high chimney blaze in Moretonhampstead last night. (thurs) One crew from the town rushed to Fore Street just before 9pm where they quickly realised they could not fight the flames from below. They deployed the large ladder together with a roof ladder to attack the source of the problem from a more elevated position. Specialist safety-at-height equipment had to be used to execute the assault on the lofty chimney. A hosereel jet was used to douse the fire. A fire spokesman said: ‘We were on scene for an extended amount of time because the chimney had to be accessed by different flats.’
