THE clash of the ages took place in Bovey Tracey last week... the town's firefighters took on their colleagues from neighbouring towns in a cricket match.

Bovey Tracey Cricket Club hosted the first inter-station match which saw the crew of Bovey Tracey Fire Station take on a combined team of Ashburton-based and Buckfastleigh-based firefighters.

There was a good mixture of players with plenty of experience and others for whom the match was their first.

It was a tightly contested, competitive game that was played in good spirits, with impeccable sportsmanship on display throughout.

But the question on everyones lips... which team came out on top?

The home side clinched the trophy, beating the away-side, dubbed 'Ashleigh', by seven runs.

'We would like to thank Bovey Tracey Cricket Club for hosting the match and to all the staff, umpires, scorers and volunteers who were so supportive and accommodating' a spokesman for Bovey Tracey Fire Station said.

'We also send our thanks to Buckfastleigh and Ashburton Fire Stations and we hope this is the first of many games between us' the spokesman added.
