A model flying club's controversial bid to establish a new base in Kingsteignton has won the support of influential councillors after a visit to the proposed site.
The site is next to farmland currently used for motorcross trials and the plan generated opposition from more than 40 people who feared additional disturbance and said the lane was too narrow.
Kingsteignton Town Council described the location as 'totally unsuitable' and there are concerns about out of control models with opponents citing a case in Hertfordshire where an 11-year-old boy was killed.
Officers at Teignbridge Council are in favour, however, and last month recommended approval at the authority's monthly planning meeting.
But members felt they had insufficient information about how noisy the models might be and wanted to see them in flight before making a decision.
Now that has happened and those present at the trial believe the scheme is acceptable provided no more than four aircraft are flown at any one time.
Their report is due to go back to the planning committee on Monday where once again approval will be recommended.
The meeting at Forde House, Newton Abbot, is open to the public and due to start at 9.45am.
