Residents at Ilford Polish Home, Stover, were treated to entertainment by opera singer Elizabeth Tracz and folk dancing by Kujawy when they hosted the Anglo-Polish Society's annual garden party on Saturday. Janush Wach, Poland's Consul General in London, unveiled a plaque recognising the dedication of the management and staff at the home. 'It went extremely well,' said Mike Saltern, business manager. 'The residents thoroughly enjoyed themselves and it was an opportuntiy to mix with kinfolk. Among the guests was the Lord Lieutenant of Devon, Eric Dancer, the chairman of Teignbridge Council, Cllr Beryl Austen, the mayor of Newton Abbot, Cllr Daphne Watts, Teignbridge MP Richard Younger Ross, County Cllr anne Fry and Mr and Mrs Maryszczyak, president of the Polish Ex-Combatants Association. Ann Foot and Mike Juny, chairman of the residents committee, cut a special cake. Home manager Clare Thomas said: 'It created a strong awareness of our desire to maintain the Polish culture, which is so important to our residents in their twilight years.
