Buckland Athletic Football Club reached their 'goal' by donating more than £4,000 to Rowcroft Hospice this week.
It decided to raise money for the good cause in memory of Clive Holmes who was involved in the football club and died four years ago.
It held a Night For Clive in the summer and more than £3,000 was collected for the cause.
Later in the year the club arranged a charity auction, where a signed Pele shirt was up for grabs, and raised even more money.
'As well as these two big events we've had various people donate money to us for Rowcroft,' said Nigel Holmes.
'In this day and age there is a lot of bad press about people not being generous, but this fundraising effort has really restored my faith. The charity and cause has really touched the hearts of many.'
In total the club raised £4,148 which was given to the hospice on Saturday.
Clive's friend, Chudleigh-based comedian Tank Sherman, also went along to the presentation and donated a further £150.
'The club then gave a further £2 so the final total donated was £4,300,' said Mr Holmes.
'Even though we've handed the money over we want to keep fundraising and we already have ideas about what to do in the future.'
