OPPONENTS of a further development at Buckfastleigh's controversial Whitecleave Quarry have lost their fight to stop the expansion scheme.

But they have won concessions in the shape of more robust operational conditions restricting successful applicants Gilpin Demolition.

Devon planners voted 8-1 in favour of the company's wish to expand its storage area for vehicles and materials and to use existing buildings for a workshop and offices at the quarry which critics maintain is an important nature conservation site.
