Chudleigh is all set for four days of celebrations to mark The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

There will be a decorated shop window competition running for the period of celebration and a Children’s Crown Trail around the town.

From Thursday, June 2, until Saturday, June 4, the Chudleigh History Society, will be putting on a Photographic Exhibition 1952 to Present Day at Chudleigh Parish Church. Refreshments will be served each day.

On Thursday, June 2, and Friday, June 3, the Highwayman’s Haunt will be putting on Live Music.

A children’s disco will be held in in the Town Hall on Friday, June 3. This disco is sponsored by Chudfest.

One of the two major events will take place on Saturday, June 4, when organisers of the celebrations will be closing Fore Street and having a Jubilee Street Party.

There will be live music performed outside the Bishop Lacy and The Phoenix.

Douglas Neely, of the Chudleigh Platinum Jubilee Committee, said: ‘We will also be broadcasting the Jubilee Concert from Buckingham Palace. There will be Food stalls available and in the early evening we plan to have face painting for children.’

On Sunday, June 5, the Parish Church bells will be rung and there will be special services in the Chudleigh Parish Church and the Chudleigh Baptist Church.

From noon, the second of the major events will take place at the Chudleigh Sport’s Centre, when they will be holding a Jubilee Picnic In The Park.

‘You can bring your own picnic but many food stalls will be available on the day as well as a licensed bar.

‘We have live entertainment organised for the whole afternoon. The Chudleigh Cricket, Football and Pétanque clubs are organising activities for children. We will also have a Bouncy Castle, and Face Painting available.’

Douglas Neely, of the Chudleigh Platinum Jubilee Committee, commented: ‘Although we are a small committee, we are rather pleased with what has been organised in a fairly short period. Chudleigh is all set for a fantastic four days of celebrations.
