A planning application to build residential properties on land next to Chudleigh cricket pitch has been resubmitted to Teignbridge Council.

Applicant John Rattlidge submitted the outline application for the development at Old Chapel, Exeter Road, on July 13.

He first has to gain permission to build a new access route on to the land before he can start the development – which will be no more than 14 homes.

The garage next to the house would be removed to create a new access road and plans include a new footpath enabling pedestrian access from the site to the town.

The existing house would remain and the applicant states that the visual appearance of the Old Chapel site would be virtually unchanged when viewed from the main road.

The hedgerow perimeter will remain as they are on a flight path for bats.

An application was previously submitted in November, but officers felt it needed further analysis with regard to vehicular and pedestrian access to the site and, as a result, the application was withdrawn.

'Since the last application we've had discussions and consulted with the Highways department and come to an agreement with the best way to provide access.

'We've also been in talks with the landscape team who are happy,' said Andrew Lethbridge, Mr Rattlidge's agent.

'We have now agreed the best way forward.'

A decision on the application is expected this autumn.
