A DAREDEVIL fundraiser has raised £1,754 for Rowcroft Hospice during a sponsored wing walk.

Betfred employee Fran Sutcliffe was strapped to a plane wing which took off from Dunkeswell airfield last week. The 10-minute flight offered panoramic views of the Devon Countryside from the airfield near Honiton.

‘It was freezing!’, said Francis, ‘hence the balaclava I was wearing. I had 100 miles per hour winds in my face.’

‘When mounting the aircraft the pilot asked me if I wanted a gentle ride, or a rough ride – I opted for a rough one!’

It wasn’t entirely clear skies for Fran, as reported in April, she initially needed a minimum of £1,000 to take part in the mission but was £300 short. Her boss, Betfred founder Fred Done, stepped in to save the day by giving her the extra cash needed.

Mr Done said: ‘As soon as I heard about Fran’s daring deed for charity it was a no-brainer for me to put my hand in my pocket.

He added: ‘With Fran getting safely back down to Earth after her brave act, the next time I am in glorious Devon I will drop into the store and thank her personally.’

Fran, who works in Newton Abbot’s Betfred store was thrilled by the generosity of her friends and family. The hospice is an especially worth while cause for her: ‘I’ve lost loved ones who have been cared for by Rowcroft. The staff have always been amazing and its good to give something back.’ORDER YOUR DIGITAL EDITION HERE
