EDWARD Avery and Cllr John Nutley stole the honours in this year's Ashburton Town Council Garden Competition.

Mr Avery, of East End Terrace, took the Baker cup for the best All-Purpose Garden and the Woollacott shield for the best Vegetable Garden, as well as a third place in the best All Year Round Garden.

For good measure his wife Elizabeth was third in the best Very Small Garden class.

Cllr Nutley, a Teignbridge councillor, was also in double form winning the Fallows cup for the best Flower Garden and the Dr Clive Graymore Garden award for the best Hanging Basket.
