TEIGNMOUTH Community School is celebrating its best yet exam results.
Commenting on the 'fantastic' GCSE results, principal Tony Gray declared: 'I want to praise the students and staff for the best results in our history.
'This will give the students a good launch into their chosen adult career path.
'They are of real value in the current economic climate. They add to the excellent post-16 results for our sixth form and our Key Stage 2 students at Mill Lane. I am delighted for them and their families, who supported them.
Eight students achieved ten passes, all at A* or A – Cameron Ray, Anastasia Cope, Shaula Garibbo, Kate McDowall, Laura Murray, Emma Pallister, Laura Pearce and Lydia Vincent.
The GCSE results were outstanding for the Year 11 group of 180 youngsters, with 92 per cent gaining at least five passes at C grade and level 2 or above, and more than 63 per cent achieving top grade passes in English and maths.
All subject areas achieved highly this year, especially the school specialist subjects of maths and ICT. Maths achieved more than 73 per cent at C or above, with ICT chalking up a 'stunning' 94 per cent.
Other core subjects did equally well, with English at 72 per cent, achieving C or above, and science at 80 per cent.
A school spokesman said: 'It was particularly rewarding to celebrate further success in the creative arts, drama, art and photography – all reached 90 per cent – with music achieving 100 per cent.
'PE also reached 100 per cent, and history and Spanish more than 90 per cent.'
Many other youngsters achieved all nine passes at A*, A and B grades, including Emma Bacon, Ryan Bedford, Katie Campbell, Amy Murray, Alice Clark, Beth Coombes, Nick Dean, Tom Grant, Anna Hendrey, Sophie Hyde, India Lawrence, Ollie Newton Browne, Heidi Oliver, Poppy Piggott, Ellie Pringle, Emily Reed, George Samways, Freya Tomlinson, James Twigg, Katie Willan and Heather Woolner.
Teachers are delighted that most will be continuing their studies in what promises to be the largest sixth form yet.
