BUCKLAND’S new £120,000 skatepark will be open for business for the first time next weekend.
The multi-wheeled sports facility will be officially opened and ready for use tomorrow at midday.
Newton Abbot Town Council and Teignbridge Council joined forces in a bid to replace the old facility with a new one which will feature quarterpipes and flatbanks.
The majority of funding came from Viridor Credits Environment Company which pumped £87,150 into it with additional support coming from local councillors and other organisations.
Cllr Gordon Hook, Teignbridge’s ward member for Buckland and Milber, said: ‘It is just great to see this excellent new facility for Buckland and for Newton Abbot but mainly for skate board enthusiasts everywhere, up and running ahead of schedule. All those responsible deserve much praise and thanks.
‘I sincerely hope hundreds if not thousands of enthusiasts will gain both fitness and pleasure from the upgraded park.’
Residents are being invited to attend the ceremony where there will be music, competitions and prizes.
Teignbridge’s executive for recreation and leisure Cllr George Gribble said: ‘This is such fantastic news for Buckland and Newton Abbot. It is a marvellous facility and one set to be enjoyed for years to come.’
