TEMPORARY tenants have pitched up at Powderham Castle with just days to go until BBC Radio 1 Big Weekend kicks off.

With less than two weeks to go until the likes of Coldplay and Mumford and Sons takes to the stage, BBC crews have started rigging the set up.

It takes the team two weeks to build the event and one week to take it all down again.

Head of live music and events, Neil Wyatt, said : ‘It is all going really good and it feels like the event is very close.’

Neil, who was at the castle when we spoke to him, said a lot of fencing was going up as well as the offices.

He revealed that the organisers are trying a few new things this year that some lucky people will be able to see, but he didn’t give away anything else.

The three stages – main stage, BBC Introducing and In New Music We Trust – are going to be set up next week with sound checks taking place on the Friday before the music spectacle gets under way.

The two-day event, which takes place on May 28 and 29, will see 50,000 people walk through the gates over the weekend to watch the likes of Iggy Azalea, Ellie Goulding, Nick Jonas and Bastille.
