Police are probing reports that a 13-year-old girl was raped in Newton Abbot near Courtenay Park on Friday evening.
The alleged incident occurred near the Queen's Hotel while the nearby Airfusion festival was taking place. 'This is a serious allegation and it is an ongoing inquiry,' said inspector Andy Dower. A man has been questioned and released on police bail pending further inquiries.
Anyone with information should contact the police on 08452 777 444 and quote reference number JN/06 2241. Six other arrests were made at this year's Airfusion. Three were arrested for public order offences, another for an alleged theft, one for alleged possession of cannabis and one for allegedly being drunk and disorderly.
'It is the usual crimes that we'd expect. There were also a few minor other problems that we had to defuse,' said Insp Dower. 'I went down to the festival myself on Friday and Saturday and patrolled the surrounding area and, overall, the feedback was good regarding police presence and the festival.
'The event paid for 15 officers to cover the three-day event. 'We were also helped by British Transport police monitored the rail station and station car park and we had eight specials who are volunteers as well as a community support officer there. 'However, the taxpayer has to realise that when incidents to happen at Airfusion there is a lot of work involved, work which is done in time after Airfuision and it comes out of our normal budget.'
