JAMIE SPEIGHT, Kingsteignton's rising boxing star, has attracted the unlikeliest of fans ahead of his latest fight – the prostitute at the centre of the Wayne Rooney sex scandal.
Jennifer Thompson's claims that she slept with England international footballer Rooney seven times over a period of months while his wife Coleen was pregnant with son Kai were widely publicised in the national media last month.
Rooney reportedly paid £1,000-a-night for secret hotel sex sessions with the 21-year-old woman.
But it seems Jennifer has now set her sights on Teignbridge Sports Personality of the Year nominee Speight after adding him as a 'friend' on Facebook.
The 22-year-old former Teign School student bids to extend his unbeaten professional boxing record to seven bouts when he takes on big-hitting Albanian Ibrar Riyaz at the Olympiad Leisure Centre, Chippenham tomorrow night – and Jennifer has been messaging him on the social networking website ahead of the fight.
As well as publicly writing on his Facebook 'wall' – asking if anyone can buy tickets and saying she will get some 'as long as I get to meet you after' – Speight claims she has been 'constantly' sending him private messages.
He says Jennifer has even asked if they can go to a hotel afterwards.
Speight, who has to supplement his boxing wages with a day job as a scaffolder, told the Advertiser that he did not realise who she was until after he accepted her 'friend' request.
'It didn't even click, and then all the lads at work said "that's that bird that Rooney's been messing about with",' he revealed.
'I've got a lot of celebrity friends on there. I'm friends with a lot of people who are interested in boxing, and a lot of models, so that's probably how she's ended up getting in contact with me.
'She's been messaging me constantly, private messaging me, saying she'll get a ticket to my next fight, saying she wants to meet me afterwards, go to a hotel. She says she thinks I'm fit.'
Speight says he's got no intention of hooking up with Jennifer, though.
'I've not led her on,' he said. 'And if she thinks she's going to get £1,000 for a night with me... well, I ain't paying it, I ain't Wayne Rooney.
'If she's there, I might say hello, but all I'm interested in is getting there, beating Riyaz and extending my unbeaten record to seven.'
