DESPITE the threatened rain, Newton Abbot Rotary Club had another successful golf day at Stover Golf Club. Now in its 11th year, the charity golf day has developed a great reputation and this year 31 teams, totalling 93 golfers, entered from across the county. The event raised £2,875 and it is hoped that the final tally will be close to £3,000. 'Over the 11 years of our golf days we have gained the support not only of the golfers in the area but the support of many businesses and organisations who help sponsor the event, provide prizes and offer other practical support,' said Tony Brooks-Daw, club president. 'This year, the charities chosen were the West of England School and College for Children of Little or No Sight, in Exeter, and the Ashburton branch of Dartmoor Rescue. 'At the end of the golf day we were able to present cheques of £1,250 to representatives of both charities.' Once the figures have been finalised, the club will donate the balance of the overall proceeds of the day.
