A GRANDMOTHER in Bovey Tracey is doing her bit later this month to give her granddaughter the chance to help disadvantaged and disabled children in South Africa.

Judy Wilson is opening up her home for a coffee morning and bric-a-brac sale to help fund young Ellen Wilson’s January adventure on the other side of the world.

The globe-trotting 18-year-old wants to give something back to people after fighting her own battle with anorexia which she was diagnosed with last year.

Judy explained: ‘At the time of her illness Ellen was studying in the sixth form for her A-Levels, but due to her illness she missed so much school and she had to leave.

‘She also quit her job and gave up learning to drive. After six months battling her illness Ellen decided to give something back after all the help she had received, and volunteered for the Project Trust which is an education charity sending young people on long-term placements abroad.’

She added: ‘Ellen is now busy fundraising to raise the money needed.  She is working very hard for this and we as a family are doing all we can to help her.’

The coffee morning is being held at Judy’s home – 88 Churchfields Drive – from 10am to midday on September 24.

All wishing to support Ellen’s overseas quest are invited to turn up on the day, which will include a tombola and some home-made treats.
