Gruffts – billed as ‘Devon’s Greatest Goat Show’ – is at Pennywell Farm in Buckfastleigh starting tomorrow, October 20.
The new spoof event is modeled on the world famous Crufts dog show.
Training is well underway and the goats will go through several rounds, including agility and obedience, as well as being judged on their all-round condition and looks.
From October 20 to 28 Gruffts events will run everyday at the farm and visitors will deliver the final verdict on which goat wins the coveted ‘best in show’.
Pennywell’s owner Chris Murray said: ‘Our visitors love goats and our goats thrive on human contact and interaction, hence we came up with the idea of a goat show, Gruffts.
‘Goats are surprisingly intelligent, inquisitive animals and are already enjoying their preparations for the show.’
Breeds represented will include Toggenburgs, Pygmy’s, Saanens, Anglo Nubiens and Golden Guernseys - all of whom will be suitably groomed and prepared for the big occasion.
Chris added he won’t be promoting the event on Twitter as he’s concerned it might attract trolls!
