Denbury Village’s Harvest Festival Collection for Homeless in Teignbridge Support (HITS) was so successful organisers were left with a major headache. How they were going to get it all to where it was needed?

Spokesperson Rachel Belringer said: ‘Once again, Denbury Church has hosted a collection of items for the HITS foodbank. Over two to three weeks, villagers brought donations to place on the window sills of the church, instead of the flower and fruit displays normally associated with Harvest Festivals.

‘Thanks to their extraordinary generosity, we were wondering how to get it all to the foodbank’s headquarters. We thought “We’re gonna need a bigger van!”

‘Luckily Rob Webb, from the Union Inn, Denbury, offered his van and his time to help out.

‘When we got it to the other end, it took more than 10 trolley loads to get it all unloaded. The volunteers there were amazed at the haul. Well done Denbury!’
