THE Harvest Festival at the Teignmouth Farmers’ Market will support the HITS charity.
On Saturday, September 24, the farmers of Teignmouth Farmers’ Market are celebrating Harvest Festival by supporting Homeless in Teignbridge and invite their customers to do the same.
HITS will be in the Triangle ready to receive any donations.
The farmers suggest those wishing to contribute food to purchase it from them at the market for the collection, or bring in their home grown surplus.
Cllr David Cox, of HITS, says: ‘Our services are even more in demand these days.
‘Every box of food that we send out includes fresh food. If we can make that locally grown, so much the better, as it reduces food miles for all of us.
‘We are delighted that our local farmers are arranging this collection site.
Lori Reich, of Shute Fruit and Produce, adds: ‘This has been a difficult year for all of us: the prolonged drought coupled with the intense heat of the summer has made growing a real challenge on the farm.
‘Nevertheless, some crops have done well and we are thankful to be able to share our harvest.’
In addition, the farmers and stallholders at the market are collectively donating their stall fees to HITS, which should be around £200.
HITS are grateful for any donation from the public, food or money, and will be collecting in the centre of the market in the Triangle in Teignmouth town centre between 10am and 2pm.
