Hang on to those brollies if you venture out this weekend – Storm Dennis is making his presence felt throughout South Devon.

High winds and heavy rain are making the weekend a washout for everyone with most local sports fixtures postponed.

For the first time in two years all matches in the South West Peninsular League, who yesterday had invoked the severe weather protocol for matches, were cancelled and it was the same story for both the South Devon Football League and the Devon Football League.

A Met Office amber weather warning for rain came into effect at midday today (Saturday) covering large parts of Devon and Dartmoor.

This is in addition to an existing yellow warning for rain across the whole of Devon which is in place until 9pm tomorrow (Sunday).

Up to four inches of rain is possible which according to the Met Office could cause a risk of flooding.

Drivers have been urged to take extra care if travelling, particularly those in high-sided HGVs, caravans and motorcycles. They are advised to check the weather and driving conditions before setting out and consider if their journey is necessary and can be delayed until conditions improve.
