CLADDING fitted to Newton Abbot Hospital – by the same company responsible for the refurbishment of fire-wrecked Grenfell Tower – is not the type being scrutinised in the wake of the London tragedy which killed at least 80 people.

The Sussex-based Rydon group was the company behind the development of Newton Abbot’s hospital under a Private Finance Initiative drawn up in 2006. The complex was opened in January 2009.

Rydon was also responsible for installing the ‘combustible’ Grenfell Tower cladding which is thought to have accelerated the blaze with catastrophic consequences just three months ago. The work was carried out between 2015-16.

A public inquiry into the Grenfell Tower disaster opened yesterday.
