FOR the second week running, no deaths related to coronavirus were recorded across Devon in the latest ONS weekly figures – with just the one death from Cornwall

The latest figures released by the Office for National Statistics today, relate to the week of July 4 and July 10, but were registered up to July 18.

It is the third time in four weeks that just one death across and the two counties and no deaths in Devon have been recorded for the seven day period.

The only death recorded in the latest weekly figures was the death of someone from Cornwall in a hospital. With no deaths having been recorded in any hospital in Devon and Cornwall in NHS England figures since June 29, it means either the death of the Cornish person occurred outside of the region or it has not been added to the NHS England dataset yet.

No new deaths in care homes were recorded, and it is the fourth week in a row that across the whole of Devon, there has been no new care home deaths.

The figures relate to deaths in which COVID-19 was mentioned on the death certificate were registered in that time period.

The Isles of Scilly has still yet to see a COVID-19 related death and the South Hams and West Devon have now gone eight weeks without a death, while Mid Devon and North Devon seven weeks and Torridge six weeks, Torbay five weeks, Exeter and Teignbridge have gone four weeks, and Plymouth and East Devon have gone two weeks.

Previous weeks have seen 1, 4, 1, 7, 10, 11, 15, 38, 44, 69, 84, 107, 89, 60, 16, and nine deaths registered.

The figures show in which local authority the deceased’s usual place of residence was.

For instance, if someone may have died in Derriford Hospital but lived in West Devon, while the death may have been registered in Plymouth, their death would be recorded in the mortality statistics for the ONS figures against West Devon.

In total, 567 deaths from coronavirus have been registered across Devon and Cornwall, with 304 in hospitals, 220 in care homes, 42 at home, and one in a hospice.
