Teignmouth's Billy Hemstock finished third in the International European Amateur Championship, which took place at the Chantilly Golf Club, France.

In a field of 150 of Europe's best amateur golfers, Hemstock, who was the highest placed Englishman, shot rounds of 72, 69, 70, and 69 for a four under par total of 280, to finish just three shots behind the winner, Frenchman Victor Dubuisson.

By finishing third, Hemstock secured automatic entry into next year's Open Championship.

'My form has been good of late,' said Hemstock.

'In the last month I played the Chiberta Grand Prix (Biarritz, France) representing and leading a three-man England team to finish equal second.

'I was then third in the Tillman Trophy, before shooting a course record 65 in the English Amateur, played at Littlestone Golf Club, Sussex.'
