BOVEY Tracey danced to the sound of music last Saturday as its annual Party in the Park rolled into town.
More than 2,000 revellers attended the free evening of live bands, which was organised by the town’s carnival committee.
All the equipment for the event was either donated or sponsored, and the selection of local acts played for their stage time.
Songs could be heard long into the night as crowds enjoyed a mix of rock, indie and much more.
Established nine-piece band Dodgey Practice were the headliners, adding their jazz-blues fusion to an already varied line-up.
Rob Pettit, chairman of the Bovey Tracey Carnival Committee, said: ‘This year’s event was a massive success. It is clear to see that it’s getting bigger and bigger each year.’
The concert forms a part of Bovey Tracey Carnival week, and is undoubtedly one of the most popular events on the schedule.
Organisers have been encouraged by the increased interest, and there are ambitious plans for future years. Although it is a local event, word is gradually getting out into the wider area and more people are coming.
‘Ultimately we would love to develop it into a full festival.’
Carnival week in Bovey Tracey is set to climax with a ‘Funday’ this Sunday.
