WORK to build 130 new homes at Penns Mount, Kingsteignton, could be held up following the discovery of a Roman hill fort on the site.

Archaeologists are asking planners to make sure the developers hold off beginning building work until their investigations on the site are complete.

Chairman of Teignbridge Archaeological Society and mayor of Kingsteignton Chris Meathrel is furious that developers could 'destroy' this valuable piece of the town's heritage.

He said: 'So far this town has had all of its heart destroyed by piece meal planning, absorbing one location after another.'
