A DEVELOPER hoping to convert a former Chudleigh residential home into private dwellings will have to stump up more than £1.2 million towards affordable housing.

Renov8 Ltd hopes to create 27 apartments at Rivendell, Woodway Street, and normally on a project of that scale would be asked to make 40 per cent of them available at below the market rate.

But planners at Teignbridge Council have decided the site is too far from the town centre and not being served by a footpath is unsuitable for social housing.
