The fall out from the collapse of Exeter-based building firm Rok has yet to become clear, although staff have been told they will continue to be paid if they turn up for work.
Sub-contractors, however, will have to fend for themselves, and Newton Abbot insolvency adviser Steve Henson has already been approached by several worried small businesses.
Trading in the troubled company was suspended on Monday and administrators from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) appointed the following day.
The firm, which employs 3,800 people nationwide and has offices in Exeter and Torquay, was a major contractor for local authorities and housing associations.
In Teignbridge it was nearing completion on the £1million extension to Teignmouth Museum and had started work on a £600,000 project at the town's hospital. That latter has halted.
