A house in Queen's Close, Kingsteignton, was severely damaged by fire and smoke on Tuesday.

An open plan lounge and kitchen was the worst hit area and the rest of the property was damaged by heat and smoke.

Fire crews from Newton Abbot attended, followed by one from Torquay, shortly after 10am.

They used four sets of breathing apparatus, two hose reels, one covering jet, a positive pressure ventilation fan and a thermal imaging camera to tackle the outbreak.

'The cause of the fire is still being investigated,' said Phil Scammells, watch commander.

'The owner called us out and when we got there the smoke alarms were operating. Nobody was harmed.'
