AN animal rescue centre based in Newton Abbot was the grateful beneficiary of a donation of hudreds of pounds thanks to the geneouristy of a nearby supermarket.

ELM Wildlife, a charity that rescues and rehabilitates Britian’s wildlife, chief among them hedgehogs, was presented with a cheque for £750 by Waitrose in Exeter.

The charity, via their Facebook page, said: ‘We would like to say a massive thank you to Exeter Waitrose for their extremely kind donation of £750 and to the amazing person who nominated us!

‘This money will make a massive difference this winter with the huge treatment costs to medicate the very sick and poorly hedgehogs coming in.’

ELM Wildlife heads up the largest hedgehog rescue centre in Devon, caring for as many as 220 hogs and hoglets at any one time.

The charity will once again be present at this year’s Abbotskerswell Christmas Market on November 26 and 27, with an array of handmade craft items on sale.
