MORE than 800 drivers were caught and issued with a fine for driving without a valid MOT last year, a Freedom of Information (FOI) request has shown.
Devon & Cornwall Police issued 870 fines in 2024, the FOI request shows.
Last year’s figure was slightly up from 2023 when the number of fines issued was 806.
The 2022 financial year saw the most fines issued in the past three years with 1,079 drivers issued with a fine.
So far in 2025, the police have issued 564 fines.
You can be fined up to £1,000 for driving a vehicle without a valid MOT.
The only exceptions are to drive it to a pre-arranged MOT test or to or from somewhere to be repaired.
