THE A38 is closed eastbound and many other accidents have been reported across Teignbridge as the treacherous icy weather keeps its grip on the area.
National Highways South West has tweeted: ‘A38 Devon is closed eastbound between the A383 Caton and the A382 Heathfield due to several road traffic collisions from icy conditions in the area. Traffic within the closure is being released past the scene. Police are on scene.’
A Yellow Warning of ice is in place until 11am this morning but the Mid-Devon Advertiser is received unconfirmed reports of many more accidents and slips this morning.
There are reports of crashes at Newton Abbot’s Hele Park and the Penn Inn Roundabout.
Temperatures dropped as low as minus seven overnight in places.
The Met Office has already warned ‘Icy surfaces will cause difficult travel conditions in a few places.
‘While some places will remain dry, showers of rain may fall onto frozen surfaces this morning in places, bringing a risk of icy patches on untreated roads and pavements.’
We have been contacted for more information about the incidents.
