POSTAL workers in Newton Abbot were working flat out this week to clear a huge backlog of mail and parcels.
Hundreds of presents, Christmas cards and other mail were stranded in the Royal Mail delivery office off Forde Road, for the two days before Christmas.
Roads around the building were like glass as arctic conditions virtually brought Teignbridge and south Devon to a standstill.
Royal Mail managers decided not to allow delivery vans and posties to leave the premises for their own safety.
