Newton Abbot Fire Station has issued images of a RTC they responded to near Eden Vauxhall garage in Newton Abbot.

On arrival, the crew found it was a Road Traffic Collision (RTC) with a vehicle on its side. All occupants were safely out of the vehicle.

The crew focused on securing the scene and the vehicle. They used battery-powered spreaders to disconnect the battery, ensuring safety for recovery teams.

Despite expecting a car fire, the incident highlighted the crew's adaptability in handling diverse situations.

A spokesperson for Newton Abbot Fire Station stated: 'This morning, one appliance from Newton Abbot fire station was mobilised to reports of a car fire near the Eden Vauxhall garage.

'Upon their arrival, the crew actually discovered that the incident was an RTC (Road Traffic Collision) rather than a car fire, with one vehicle resting on its side.

'Crews were quickly able to establish that all of the occupants were free and clear from the vehicle. As a result, the crew could focus their attention on making the vehicle and scene safe. They achieved this by using our battery-powered spreaders to gain access under the bonnet.

'This was so they could disconnect the battery and leave the car as safe as possible for recovery teams.Although crews were expecting a fully developed car fire, this incident once again shows the crews ability to be able to adapt to any situation or scenario required.'
