A Bovey Tracey restaurant owner could be facing fines of up to £20,000 after two illegal workers were arrested by immigration officers.

Staff from the UK Border Agency went to the Spice Bazaar, Fore Street, on November 9, and found two Bangladeshi men who had entered the country without permission.

Unless owner Shahar Lashkor can provide evidence that the correct checks were made, such as seeing a passport or Home Office document, he could be fined £10,000 for each offence.

An earlier operation at Spice Bazaar in September 2004 resulted in the deportation of three Nepalese and two Bangladeshi staff.
