Wayland Van Hildyck-Smith, of Newton Abbot, writes: Despite acknowledging the 'strong objections' to re-siting the main Post Office in Queen Street, (where once they had a post office, but closed it) Colin Ball cocks a snook at us all and gives Costcutter the go-ahead. One of the dictionary definitions of planning is 'to decide on and arrange in advance'. how true. It is a pity he has never stood in the Market Walk and watched the elderly and semi infirm alighting at the bus station and making their painful way on their sticks and walking frames, to the main post office and then back again to catch the bus. Does he really think for people such as these, that it is 'a reasonable walking distance' to Costcutter? These folk cannot get off the bus outside because their buses do not use this route. and what of all the motorists who use the post office and now park in Halcyon Road or the multi-storey, where are they going to park to use the new venue? I know from experience that there is never an empty parking place anywhere near there at any time of day. Doesn't he listen to all his fellow councillors who are 'disappointed' at his decision or to the requests of the public whom he is supposed to represent? I doubt you will get more service counters at the new site than you did in Market Square, so why change it? Ah well, as they say: 'It ain't what you know etc, etc.'
