WITHIN hours of Ireland-based Dublin Aerospace Group announcing it would be forming Exeter Aerospace at the former Flybe base at Exeter Airport, over 400 applicants had applied for the 100 new jobs being created for the new business.

The Irish aircraft maintenance specialist announced yesterday (Tuesday, September 29) that it had established Exeter Aerospace at the former Flybe Maintenance Services facility at the regional airport after taking over the grounded airline servicing operations.

Dublin Aerospace already provides maintenance for Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 and A330 aircraft in Ireland, but now aims to compliment that with regional jet maintenance at Exeter

The company said it was seeking to immediately hire 100 aircraft mechanics, engineers and aviation professionals to work at the new facility - and was inundated with applications.

Chairman and chief executive of Dublin Aerospace Conor McCarthy said the Irish company had leased the hangars at Exeter formerly used by Flybe.

He said: ‘We are thrilled to have made Exeter the home of our first UK MRO (Maintenance Repair and Overhaul) Centre.

‘The availability of the hangars and workshops there, combined with a phenomenal local pool of aviation and engineering talent, made this a hugely attractive location for us.’

Over the next three to four years, the company aims to have over 250 aviation professionals working at Exeter Aerospace providing a much-needed boost for the local economy.

Dublin Aerospace currently employs over 450 people, including about 100 seasonal contractors, in aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul at Dublin Airport and at an additional facility in Ashbourne, County Meath.

Exeter Aerospace has entered into an agreement with Regional and City Airports (RCA) Limited, owners of Exeter Airport, regarding the long-term lease of the hangars and workshops at the airport.

RCA CEO Andrew Bell said: ‘We are delighted to welcome Exeter Aerospace to the airport. This recognises and reactivates some of our specialised local skills and facilities and we look forward to working with them and supporting their exciting plans for growth.’
