TWO girl scouts were certainly prepared when a lad fell out of a tree.
They put their first-aid training to good use to treat Josh Miles, eight, after his tumble at Bishopsteignton.
He was climbing the tree in the village play park when a branch snapped and he dropped a few feet on to the ground, banging his head on a branch on the way down and landing in a bed of stinging nettles.
But luckily big sister Charley, 11, and her friend Becky Pepperell, 11, were on hand and knew exactly what to do.
Fortunately Josh was not badly hurt, but he was shaken up, and suffering from a sore head and a swollen arm, after an allergic reaction to the stings.
The two girls are members of the 1st Bishopsteignton Scouts, and recently completed their first aid badges.
Becky reassured Josh to keep him calm, and Charley found some dock leaves to ease the stinging, and used a sock filled with a squash drink as a cold compress.
Josh quickly recovered, and his mum, Gail, said she was proud of the two girls for acting so swiftly.
'It was a textbook operation from their first aid training, and they did exactly the right things.
'It just shows the value of having first aid knowledge,' she said.
