A FIFTEEN-year-old student at Teign School, Kingsteignton, has volunteered to set foot into his personal Room 101 tomorrow in a bid to raise funds for a life-changing overseas mission.

Josh Counter is preparing to take part in the World Challenge Expedition, due to be held in Ecuador next year.

Assuming he can raise the £3,200 needed to take part, Josh will engage in a series of welfare activities such as helping to build a new orphanage for an impoverished community. However, his tender years have meant that finding a job to help swell the coffers has proved impossible. Instead, he is undertaking his least favourite activity in the hope that kind-hearted sponsors will help fill the financial gap.

'Josh will be walking from Kingsteignton to Brixham, which is quite something as walking is his least favourite thing,' said his mum, Karen. 'But now he has set himself the challenge of walking as far as he thinks he can manage in one day.' The 13-mile trek will follow the main roads between the two towns and he hopes that with a special T-shirt, novelty hat and collecting bucket in hand passers by will notice him and make a donation.

Any cash received en route will be added to the £550 he has already banked courtesy of sponsors and money he received at Christmas. 'Any job offers would also be most welcome,' said Mrs Counter.
